217km from Lake Forbes to Mendooran - A Cycling Adventure

The morning started with a relaxed vibe as we geared up for our ride just outside the cozy accommodation at the Lake Forbes Motel. As we were about to embark on our journey, we realised we forgot to check the forecast for the day. But we weren't too worried since we had been blessed with cool mornings, clear blue skies, and gentle headwinds throughout our journey. To our delight, the weather forecast showed more of the same today.

However, our excitement was short-lived as we encountered some undulating and poorly-maintained roads, which felt like a stretch straight out of the grueling Paris-Roubix. After pushing through 25km of this challenging terrain, morale was low, but we kept going, determined to conquer Peak Hill - a name that speaks for itself with its hilly inclines.

When we hit the 104km mark, we took a much-needed break for lunch, just a stone's throw away from the CSIRO radio telescope observatory, also known as "the dish." As we continued towards Dubbo, we were thrilled to encounter only the second cyclist we've seen since Adelaide. Hans, cycling to Dubbo with his 45kg bike, gave us a nod of camaraderie as we passed him by.

By 2:30 pm, we arrived at Dubbo, having covered an impressive 152km already. The temptation to call it a day and hit the bed was almost too strong to resist. But we knew we still had 66km to go to reach Mendooran before sunset. With the finish line in sight, we pushed ourselves harder and harder until we could go no further - ending the day just shy of our goal.

Another sunrise to sunset day of cycling under our belts - an adventure we'll never forget!
