Team We’re Bluffin’!

Alastair.

It’s mid-March 2020, I’m biking the Remutaka Rail Trail with a mate, and we are ‘going against the flow’ as dozens of steely-gazed riders atop their heavily laden bikes head past us in the other direction. At Summit, we learn that this is today’s ‘wave’ of TA riders who have overnighted in Featherston, and are now Wellington-bound.

Upon reaching Cross Creek, we strike up a conversation with one couple, Michelle & Neil from Timaru, and bike back with them to our car parked at Maymorn, learning much more about the TA along the way – and the seed is planted!

Some time later I contact Michelle – to see how they had fared with their TA post-Covid lockdown, and to pick their brains for my own research. She wrote: ‘We both said to ourselves after we met you “this guy is gonna do the TA”!’

And here we are…!

Now in his fourth year of “retirement”, Andy gladly accepted Alastair’s invitation to join the We’re Bluffin’! team as a great challenge for 2022. Little did he understand the level of training required and the planning that goes into such a challenge!
