Prep#4 - Why a Father-Son duo embark on a journey from Adelaide to Brisbane?
On a hopefully warm Thursday April morning on the pavement of Rundle Mall Adelaide, a father and son duo Andy and Sam will set out on their ten-day cycling adventure from Adelaide to Brisbane. The inspiration for the journey by bike, was the challenge of completing the 2,200 km distance, in ten days, and the two are eager to take on this challenge.
Neither of them have ridden this far in such a short amount of time, so the daily routine of long repeated days in the saddle will be a true test of their endurance. They have spent months training and preparing, carefully selecting their equipment and planning their food intake to ensure they are ready for the journey ahead.
As they set out, they will be greeted by the vast expanse of outback Australia, with long and straight roads stretching out before them. They will experience breathtaking scenery, with vast long flat roads, where the tarmac will touch the horizon, far in the distance. They will pedal on, fuelled on by their determination to complete the journey on their own pedal power.
Along the way, they are sure to encounter Australian wildlife, including kangaroos and other unique animals. As they navigate the challenges of cycling on outback highways, rely on each other for support, working together to pick each other up when the going gets tough, as it surely will.
For Andy, the journey is not his first long-distance cycling event. He has previously completed the Tour of Aotearoa, a cycling brevet from the top of the North Island to the bottom of the South Island in New Zealand, just one year ago. His experiences from the month long journey are still fresh in his mind, and he has a wealth of knowledge and experience to draw from the TA event.
The physical and mental challenges they’ll face will be immense, but they will persevere, knowing that the reward of completing the journey would be worth it. They will write daily blogs about their journey, sharing their experiences and thoughts along the way. Their unique perspectives will add depth and insight to the adventure, for you to follow along.
The journey, will emphasize the importance of teamwork and the bond between a father and son. The lessons to be learned are like ones that could be applied to any challenge in life, showing the power of mind over matter and never giving up on one's dreams.
The scenery while stunning will be relentlessly unchanging at times while traversing the outback at cycling speeds, providing an ever-challenging backdrop to the ride. They will need to find beauty in the vast expanse and isolation of Australia’s outback landscape, and rely on their spirits soar above it, as they pedal towards their destination, Queen’s street Mall in Brisbane.
As they approached Brisbane, they will know that they have accomplished something truly remarkable. Completing the journey on nothing but their own pedal power to see the distance covered. The journey will be a true test of their endurance and teamwork, to emerge victorious.
On completion, the journey itself may be over, but the memories and lessons form the experience will last a lifetime. A real testament to the power of perseverance and the strength of the bond between a father and son. To look back on their journey together and know that they have accomplished something truly remarkable as a team, will be the answer for why.
