TA Day 11: A Day of Two Halves. Pipiriki to Whanganui for one and a rest day for Andy

Distance 0km, Elevation Gain 0m

Andy having taken himself off to Wanganui to see the bright lights and live the high life, Alastair settled in for a relaxing afternoon and evening at Wanganui River Adventures campground. Much fun was had putting up the tent, doing laundry, showering and supping on ze cool Heinekens...all before the evening boatloads of TA-ers arrived to turn his solitary tent pitch into a mini-encampment! After-dinner fun socialising with his many new friends, and so to bed!

After a surprisingly restful night's sleep (for once!) it was up bright and early to hit the day's route - a 77km ride on sealed roads following the river downhill (unsurprisingly!) to Wanganui. Glorious scenery on another gorgeous day. Viewpoint atop the day's first significant climb was a little nerve-wracking due to the presence of a mini-swarm of bees from an adjacent apiary! On and on his little legs pedalled until the sting in the tail (pun intended and achieved) of 'Gentle Annie' - a little bee-atch of a climb before the long descent and flat run in to town....and reunion with Andy (touchingly reminiscent of the similar rencontre between Frodo and Bawbags Bobbin....or was it Samwise Gammyknee?!)
