Day 3 - Mildura to Balranald NSW plus* 220km
Today: 220km
Total: 652km
Where we found a pensioner’s limit, saw a few live roos (as distinct from ones that had detonated at the side of the road), a mob of emus, more straight roads and some of the worst coffee in the country.
Another early start to the day. Up at 5:30am in an attempt to get on the road as soon as it was light enough and remembering our team wagon needed to take us 20k to our starting point from last night’s finish.
Pretty uneventful morning but Andy was struggling by our first stop at 50k for second breakfast. By 100k it became evident that Andy was not up to competing today’s 220k so he pulled the plug. His right leg wasn’t doing any work with his back and hip is now very sore.
Sam being the machine continued towards Balranald in the middle of nowhere where we are staying tonight. Balranald is only 140k from the start so Sam wizzed through to complete an extra 80k to keep our schedule intact.
Staying at the Shamrock motel which I have to say has seen better days and in need of a detailed clean. The leeches in the shower being step one. Pauline had to ask for one of the units to be vacuumed yet we still found leftover food and a drink bottle in the fridge
With a restful afternoon and a good nights sleep Andy hopes to be back on the bike tomorrow.
